Australia

The two months initially planned to visit Tasmania stretch like chewing gum (9 months at last count), which is a must for our fitness.

The cabin of Lorinna Valley was a bit narrow for all these people, so we are looking for other good souls to accommodate us.

If you follow the (doomsday) prepper philosophy (you know, the ones who plan and train to survive the end of the civilized world), in the event of a pandemic, you must isolate in a place easy to defend and rich in renewable resources (water and food).

For Katy to benefit from the Mentos freely (without two uptight people all the time over her shoulder), we plan two weeks of volunteering north of Melbourne.

What makes a jetty so important for Australians? Historically, any self-respecting coastal village must, sooner or later, ask the government to build a jetty.

Before reaching the plains of the Nullarbor, the authentic treeless region (Nullarbor meaning "no tree" in Latin), we first have to leave Western Australia.

Here we go for a few days of volunteering with Georgina, Jürg and their teenager Gian-Luca.

What changed at Carey Downs in a month? Harry, Alys and family spend some time in August wandering around Western Australia.

We wanted to get off the beaten track. A gigantic cattle farm a hundred kilometres of dirt road off Gascoyne Junction (20 houses, a school, a post office, a gas station and a campsite) sounds pretty good!

Just out of the plane, Sébastien, the very special package and also Olivier's brother, has only one goal: go swimming in the Indian Ocean.

Life has been so easy for the last two months. A farm seems the right choice not to get rusty : there is always something to do!

The first interview with our new host, Malcom, takes place at the Boranup Campground.

Choosing your ride is a crucial step for backpacker. Without hesitation, we make up our mind for a campervan.

New Zealand

After 11 months spent in the southern hemisphere, it wouldn't be wise to go back home too quickly: that's why we're having a break in the tropics, in the North East of Thailand (Isan region).

Hard to face the reality but this is already our last stop on kiwi land : Auckland, the biggest city and the hub that nearly every tourist goes through.

Kiwi aren't particularly rebellious and popeyed when French farmers go along the Champs-Élysées with their tractor to protest.

Tools and ingredients paper to start the fire firewood shovel big volcanic rocks or heavy iron pieces metal basket jute cloths cabbage or leek leaves kumara pumpkin potatoes stuffed chicken stuffed lamb Recipe Dig a hole in the ground slightly bigger than the metal basket.

Networking is as efficient at finding a job as at entering an out of the beaten track wwoofing.

You, northern hemisphere inhabitant, might be dreaming of air conditioning or a swimming pool while we are begging for some warmth so we decide to head north.

New wwoofing means new diet and new boss :). Dieter introduced us to biodynamics, vegetarianism and german organisation (Bavarian to be accurate).

Unfortunately we can't stay forever at Sue 'n Nev's, the rest of New Zealand is waiting for us.
